April Reading Roundup

April Reading Roundup

Well, here it is June already, and I'm just now posting my April reading roundup. Better late than never, right? Here's what I read in April, and what I thought about it.

The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd - I really enjoyed this one, it was a wonderful mix of two of my favorite genres, dark academia and magical realism. Made me look at maps in a whole new way (that sounds boring, but I swear it's not). 4 stars.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas - I got swept up in the ACOTAR universe in April, this was the first of three installments that I read this month. When I read ACOTAR, I said that I didn't know how I could switch from Team Tamlin to Team Rhysand, but Maas had me making the switch in one chapter. 5 stars.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas - things really built to a boiling point in the third installment of the ACOTAR series. I really liked the way that Maas handled the characters' trajectories, and found this to be a very satisfying outcome. 4 stars.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - for some reason, I'd resisted reading this one for years, and honestly, for me it didn't quite live up to the hype. I definitely enjoyed it, but it got a bit bogged down in the middle for me (battle, rest, repeat). 3 stars.

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel - the description of this book really doesn't sound like something I'd be into, but I absolutely loved it. I'm not much of a science fiction reader, but I found this novel so compelling and beautifully written - it's the best thing I've read so far this year. 5 stars.

Blaine for the Win by Robbie Couch - kind of a gay, high school take on Legally Blonde, this one was a lot of fun. 3 stars.

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas - the third ACOTAR installment that I read this month, and the fourth in the series. I really don't understand the point of this one, it was basically a lot of Christmas shopping. 2 stars.

And that's it for my April books - seven books is a pretty good number for me! Have you read any of these? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
